Do you want to work in the MRF, our new, state-of-the-art nuclear materials research facility?

We need experienced engineers, scientists and technicians for its expanding and wide-ranging investment, commissioning and operation programmes.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority has an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical design engineer to join its Materials Research Facility team and work on a wide range of parallel projects.

The nature of the work means you may be eligible for an ongoing enhanced payment, the circumstances in which this would be the case, can be explained at interview.

Key accountabilities include developing creative design solutions for integration of sensitive scientific equipment for work in a harsh environment, transport systems for radioactive specimens, adaptation of equipment for sample preparation, and development of robotic systems for remote handling of active material.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience

Essential
-Relevant degree level (or equivalent) qualification
-Proven track record of delivering and leading technical projects and design using 3D CAD
-Record of creative engineering design and calculations from first principles
-Good working knowledge of structural and thermal engineering, solid mechanics and engineering materials
-Technical writing skills

Desirable
- Engineering design in a nuclear context

Special requirements:
-Work in radiation-controlled areas or in beryllium-controlled areas
