Principal Electronic Systems Engineer and Senior Electronic Systems Engineer

We currently have vacancies for a Principal Electronic Systems Engineer and Senior Electronic Systems Engineer at our sites in New Malden, Portsmouth (Broad Oak site), Dorchester or Frimley

As an Electronic Systems Engineer, you will undertake a wide range of equipment design, development and support activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements under the direction of the Hardware Engineering team leader.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to design, develop and support equipment across a variety of Royal Navy platforms and to support campaigns for future upgrades.

Your main responsibilities as an Electronic Systems Engineer could involve:

Development of design specifications under minimal guidance and carrying out equipment design activities making maximum use of commercial off the shelf (COTS) items in line with those specifications.

Carrying out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options; and preparation of reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements

Build, assembly and installation of consoles and cabinets containing COTS equipment to authorised design and installation specifications

Support of hardware related test and acceptance activities and production of material in support of Product Safety and Design Certification activities

Contribute to process improvement within the operational and/or engineering team to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time and asset utilisation

Production of procurement specifications for items sub-contracted out to third party suppliers

Liaison with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Knowledge and experience in the design of equipment incorporating PC and networking technology utilising non-bespoke COTS items

Experience working with Ethernet, serial interfaces and variety of other interface technologies

Experience with COTS cabinets, cabinet design, wiring schedules, power distribution etc

Experience of assembly of system equipment, internal components and wiring including installation in lab spaces and on ship

Knowledge of the currently deployed combat system equipment architecture or similar Naval combat systems based on COTS technology across the lifecycle phases including physical aspects

Experience in Product Safety and a good understanding of Design Certification
