We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the group as a Database Administrator. In addition to developing and operating professional database services, you will take an active role in advising on the architecture and technology strategy for the database services going forward, to meet the science facilities ever-increasing needs for storing, searching and analysing their data. In addition to the technical skills required, you will be able to demonstrate good communication skills, good organisational skills, and an analytical approach to problem solving. You will need to provide a share of on call support (systems can be supported remotely) and undertake some travel in the UK and overseas, e.g. to CERN, conferences. In addition to the support of services, there are opportunities to work with other "big data" projects and to participate in research in scientific data management. You will have plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and get involved in new technologies. Additional training and certification opportunities are also offered. About You
It is essential that you have: knowledge of current database management systems, e.g. Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, Postgres, etc. experience with Oracle database management operations, e.g. running queries, installation, backup/restore, monitoring etc. experience with Linux You must have at least two of the following: experience managing services in a production environment knowledge of SQL tuning experience of shell scripting and/or another programming language, e.g. Python, Java Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) degree in a scientific, mathematical or IT related discipline You must be able to travel occasionally (usually 1-3 days, but up to 1 week), within the UK and overseas as necessary.
