Senior Technical Author

Would you like to play a key role in the production and maintenance of electronic Technical Documentation (TD)/Handbooks? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Technical Author at our site in New Malden.

As a Senior Technical Author, you will be supporting the operation and maintenance of Combat Management Systems (CMS) and equipment for Naval Ships projects.

This role will provide you with the chance to develop your authoring skills and produce electronic/interactive handbooks that will engage internal and external stakeholders.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Technical Author will involve:

Planning and agreeing TD/Handbook programmes and deliverables with projects and the Technical Publications Manager

Producing project TD/Handbook deliverables, reporting to the CMS1 Technical Publications Manager

Proactively developing close working relationships with project teams to ensure timely availability of requisite source information for the production of TD

Ensuring that the TD includes the necessary safety and security procedures to ensure that equipment can be operated and maintained in a safe and secure manner.

Ensuring adequate monitoring and reporting of tasks to support effective management and execution of the TD Programmes.

Supporting Bids/Estimating tasks

The role may require occasional travel within the UK.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Good IT and literacy skills relevant to Technical Documentation production.

Experience in one or more of the following:

Conversant with the requirements of ASD S1000D standards for the production of electronic Technical Documentation (TD)

Experience of SGML/XML data module production in a Common Source Database (CSDB) environment

A proven record of authoring TD/Handbooks to support operation and maintenance of complex

electronic systems

Desirable:

Experience of Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP) production

Experience of Graphics application packages (e.g. - IsoDraw, Photoshop, Paintshop)

Experience of Common Source Data Base (CSDB) authoring environments (Arbortext, Eagle EPS)

Experience of the 'Trilogi' application toolset, used to produce and view Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs)

Hardware Engineering background/knowledge

Knowledge of legacy publication standards (e.g. Def Stans 00-60 and 02-40).

Candidate will typically have a STEM related degree (science, technology, engineering, maths) ORwill have equivalent experience with another employer
