IT Business Analyst

Team overview 
Our client’s IT function has implemented a partnering strategy to deliver its services by outsourcing a number of activities, specifically around the technical support and operations. They retain the overall management and accountability for IT services and work collaboratively with their partners to deliver as a single IT team to the business. 

The outsourcing strategy is driven by value for money, skills and know-how to deliver excellent user experience and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. 

Purpose of the Role 

The Business Analyst will work with the business functions across the organisation to analyse and capture business and process requirements for all IT related business, financial, spectrum and operations systems. 

You will: 

- Interface with the Business Solutions Architecture team and delivery partners 
- Ensure that the business requirements are understood 
- Progress the architecture, design and development 
- Develop test plans for user acceptance and system testing 
- Support the IT Test Manager to ensure that all functional and system testing is planned and executed 
- Support the development of the project business case 
- Support the IT Programme Director in managing the future projects pipeline 
- Develop relationships with stakeholders across the business 
- Work with both technical and non-technical teams 

Business Process Improvement 

- Analyses and designs business processes 
- Develops graphical representations of business processes 
- Assesses the feasibility of business process changes and recommends new approaches 
- Manages the execution of business process improvements 
- Selects, tailors and implements business process improvement methods and tools 
- Contributes to the definition of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines 

Business Analysis 

- Takes responsibility for investigative work to determine business 
- Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate business analysis methods, tools and techniques 
- Collaborates with stakeholders at all levels 
- Prepares business cases which define potential benefits and options for achieving these benefits 

Requirements Definition & Management 

- Plans and drives scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities 
- Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate requirements definition and management methods, tools and techniques 
- Obtains input from, and formal agreement to, requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders 
- Negotiates with stakeholders to manage competing priorities and conflicts 
- Ensures changes to requirements are investigated and managed 

Business Process Testing 

- Designs and manages tests of new/updated processes 
- Specifies test environments for whole life-cycle testing 
- Manages selection/creation of relevant scenarios for testing 
- Ensures tests and results are documented and reported 
- Highlights issues and risks identified during testing 
- Provides specialist guidance and advice to less experienced colleagues and users 

Systems Development 

- Accepts responsibility for creation of test cases 
- Uses in-depth technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications 
- Creates traceability records, from test cases back to requirements 
- Produces test scripts, materials and regression test packs 
- Specifies requirements for environment, data, resources and tools 
- Interprets, executes and documents complex test scripts 
- Records and analyses actions and results 
- Reviews test results and modifies tests 
- Provides reports on progress, anomalies, risks and issues 
- Reports on system quality and collects metrics on test cases 

User Experience Analysis 

- Identifies and defines user experience and user accessibility requirements 
- Works with stakeholders to prioritise requirements and resolve conflicts 
- Identifies and describes the user objectives for systems, products and services 
- Defines the required behaviour and performance of the system, product or service 
- Specifies measurable criteria for the required usability and accessibility of the system, products and services 

User Experience Evaluation 

- Manages user experience evaluation of systems, products or services 
- Advises on what to evaluate and the type of evaluation to use 
- Works iteratively with design teams to ensures that the results of evaluations are understood and acted upon 
- Advises on achievement of required usability and accessibility levels of specific designs or prototypes 

Skills, knowledge and experience 

The IT Business Analyst should have

- Knowledge of Business Analysis tools and techniques 
- Knowledge of Project management methods including PRINCE2 and Agile Scrum 
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
- Understanding and experience Office 365 and SharePoint 

Qualifications 

- Business Analyst qualification such as ISEB Business Analysis Diploma qualified or CBAP certified 
- Knowledge of Project Management methodologies including Waterfall and Agile 
- ITIL qualification, foundation
