As Agile Delivery Lead ("Capability Lead") for the Insights Data Engineering (IDE) team within Schroders, you will be at the intersection of data science, technology, financial services, and innovation. You will lead a team of data engineers who build pipelines for alternative data sets (and perform most of the ETL and platform engineering) that supports our communities of data scientists. Additionally the IDE team are responsible for maintaining the data science toolkit (e.g. RStudio) and rolling out our new data virtualisation platform (Denodo). The role of Capability Lead is a senior member of the IDE team who largely runs the team (so has responsibilities for line management, delivery of value, managing the budget etc.) and helps mentor the more junior engineers in the team.
  
Overview of the role
The candidate would work within a small team to fulfil the below duties:Support the team according to Lean-Agile principles, being a champion of professional and technical standards by coaching, facilitating and advising rather than by executing traditional team task management
Manage the introduction of new technologies/products for this team
Be accountable for the Technical Environment & Strategy to meet business needs
Own the team structure, performance and budget
Be accountable for the effective value delivery of the team
Form a trusted partnership with business teams, rather than a client/vendor relationship
Support strategic and tactical planning activities where required
Be comfortable representing the team to senior stakeholders from across Schroders 
Essential Skills and ExperienceStrong understanding of ETL / Data Pipelining / Data Engineering and the underlying technologies
Experience in managing and coaching a team
Experience in budgeting, forecasting and vendor management
Good database architecture knowledge
Experience with Agile management tools like Jira, Microsoft ADO
Experience developing in SQL and another language, e.g. Python, even if no longer hands on
Nice-to-have skillsDenodo / data virtualisation experience
Jenkins / job automation experience
Familiarity with working in Agile development teams (preferably SAFe)
Experience working in Financial Services Technology
Working knowledge and experience of the Investment Management industry
