Following a recent management re-structure within our IT/Digital Services team, we are now looking to recruit an IT Service Desk Manager. 

This management position will play a pivotal role in delivering technology enabled change across the council and ensure we are providing first class IT service desk. It's an exciting time to join our team as we look to change the way we operate, deliver some large-scale IT initiatives and support the council to become a modern and efficient organisation.

You will be responsible for the IT Service desk function, first and second line support services, alongside the provisioning of all hardware and software deployments across the council.

You will utilise your general and specialist knowledge, skills and experience in order to:

Take direct responsibility for a specific functional area(s) of the ICT service which is aligned with business needs and demands.

Manage and contribute to programmes of work designed to improve service delivery, customer service and consequently increase the effectiveness, efficiency and reputation of the service.

Manage teams of staff in both a direct and matrix management arrangement ensuring achievement against objectives; motivating, encouraging and developing staff to reach their potential.

We are looking for candidates who:

Possess the technical/subject matter knowledge and experience in order to take responsibility for the delivery of high-quality ICT services and/or assignments in at least one of the functional areas identified above.

Can demonstrate a broad understanding of modern technology and its potential application, with knowledge of how local government is using Digital solutions to transform services and to improve the way the council works.

Have experience of managing, motivating, developing and supporting staff.  In the absence of direct experience, be able to demonstrate the ability to do so.

Hold a relevant degree level qualification or are able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience.

In order for you to be shortlisted for the post, you must be able to demonstrate how you meet the requirements of the 'Person Profile' against the starred (*) criteria and you must illustrate how your knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications are relevant in the context of the functional discipline.

This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions only).

In order to support the Council's requirement to save a further GBP 41 million from its budget, by collective agreement, from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2020 there is a temporary 1.15% pay reduction from the advertised substantive salary quoted, which will be spread out by means of a weekly/monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure three additional day's leave (pro rata for part time workers and new starters in year) will be granted.
