Network Engineer

Would you like to play a key role, working as a network development engineer contributing to the on-going evolution of the networks deployed to the QE Class Aircraft Carriers? We currently have a vacancy for a Network Engineer based at our Broad Oak site in Portsmouth.

As a Network Engineer you will be responding to requests for support from the Royal Navy on board the QE Aircraft Carriers; contributing to the development of new network designs, implementation, test and installations; working in the office, lab and on board the QE Aircraft Carriers.

You will find yourself working with Cisco networking technology and will have the opportunity to get involved with server and WAN technologies throughout the support programme that will run initially up to 2024.

Your main responsibilities as a Network Engineer will involve:

Supporting the design phase of Naval Networks, this includes network architecture and development/changes to requirements of interface documents that capture how 'using systems' will interface with the network

Assisting with the implementation phase of Naval Networks based on the design baseline, which encompasses the configuration creation, and supporting the development of auto generated interface scripting of the design directly into switch configuration

Supporting the test/release phase of Naval Networks based on the implementation baseline, which involves fault resolution under pressure for delivery of a release to be used on the QE Aircraft Carriers

Supporting roll-out of network configuration on the QE Aircraft Carriers

Supporting the functional, performance and safety testing that will be required to release deployable networks to other suppliers

Applying good Configuration Management processes to daily work through Observation Reporting tools and keeping track of documentation amendment records

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Experienced in all aspects of networking, excellent L1 to L3 skills

IT Infrastructure / networking technical background

Integration support background

Desirable

Knowledge of some of LAN, WAN, MPLS, QoS, BGP, OSPF, RIP, IPSEC, GRE, L2TP, MSTP, HSRP, Virtual Switchin

Cisco knowledge

CCNP minimum or working towards

You will have good communication skills and work well as part of a team. It is essential that you are a proven self-starter and comfortable taking ownership of tasks through to completion.

You will work within an engineering team of 18+ multi-disciplinary engineers and you will have the ability to apply your knowledge throughout the development lifecycle of new networking capabilities.
