We are looking to recruit a Human Factors Consultant into our Human Behaviour & Systems team, with potential to cross work without our other teams in Human Performance including Psychology and Systems, Aircrew Systems Integration, and Organisation Systems and Training.

We are looking for people with a range of experience and seniority.

In this role, you will be required to lead and support a number of different Human Factors research and consultancy projects across a range of areas, primarily Cyber, Human Factors Integration (HFI), and Psychology. This may be from the initial development stages of projects and bid preparation, through to design, analysis, delivery, and writing of final reports and presentations.

The following are examples of recent projects we have worked on:

- Command and Control analysis and experimentation

- Cyber Vulnerability Investigations

- Design of workspace layout for Operations and Control Rooms

- Development of methods for incorporating Human Factors in system design, such as defining cognitive requirements

- Experiments exploring CCTV operator performance, responses to disruptions, and target detection thresholds

- Human Factors assessments of new technology

- Human Factors Integration (HFI) support to unmanned vehicles

- Task analyses of various military tasks

- User interface concept designs for armoured personnel carriers

Key accountabilities:

You will be responsible for designing and leading research and consultancy projects within the Human Performance group. The successful candidate will meet a specific set of criteria in the following areas:

- Working in a project team: Depending on the project, you may be working on your own or as part of a project team, either as the technical lead or as a project team member. You will be required to work with multiple technical disciplines within QinetiQ, and with external partners.

- Communicating with others: You will be expected to contribute (and often lead) internal and external project meetings. You will need to communicate effectively with the immediate team and with other groups across QinetiQ, and communicate effectively with external partners and clients.

- Management of own work you will be responsible for working to time, budget and quality. You will use Microsoft Outlook for email and to manage your own diary.

- For more senior applicants Winning Work: You will be responsible for winning work for yourself and other team members.

Competencies required for the role:

- Leading teams: You will be responsible for leading project teams comprising consultants with a range of expertise and providing Human Factors expertise into multi-disciplinary projects. This will involve supporting and mentoring more junior team members.

- Literature searching: Using various electronic sources, you will be responsible for extracting and summarising relevant information.

- Analysis and assessment: You will regularly be required to design and conduct Human Factors analyses for research and consultancy tasks, such as Task Analyses, Early Human Factors Analyses and Target Audience Descriptions. You will also need to design Human Factors assessments to support equipment design at various stages of development, covering such aspects as anthropometry, Human-Computer Interaction and manual handling.

- Experimentation: You will be required to design and lead experimental studies for research and consultancy tasks. The experiments may be laboratory-based, use customer facilities or take the form of field trials. You will frequently be required to work with multi-disciplinary teams and will need to be flexible and able to work within constraints.

- Data analysis: You will need to be experienced in both qualitative and quantitative analysis, including the use of tools such as R, SPSS, and MS Excel.

- Report writing: You will need to be experienced in the use of MS Word to write reports, and MS Excel to produce graphs and charts.

- Designing and delivering presentations: You will need to be experienced in the use of MS PowerPoint to produce high-quality presentations for internal and external use. You will need to be comfortable presenting to a variety of different audiences, including to clients, stakeholders, and for conferences.

- Liaising with clients: You will be expected to work with a variety of client organisations. You will need to be experienced in dealing with client queries, attending client meetings, and communicating with clients via email or telephone. As the technical lead on your projects, you will be the main point of contact for all client queries. You will be responsible for highlighting any project delays or problems in a timely manner with the client, and for managing mitigations to keep the project to the agreed schedule.

Minimum Qualifications:

* A bachelor's degree in Ergonomics/Human Factors, or a related subject

* Chartered status with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors

* Holding a Master's degree or doctorate in a relevant field of study
