Job description/Person specification This is a new opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer to join a team of dedicated IT professionals to deliver new and exciting IT systems into the Defence environment. Working under a Senior Engineer or Architect, the successful candidate will lead smaller tasks and take responsibility for the technical output. This will involve working closely with the technical management team to identify resources required for the task and provide regular progress updates. The role will involve:> Proactively working with solution architects and aid in the production of (and/or contributions to) proposals for work (preparation/justification of work programmes/plans/resource estimates)
> Leading tasks to ensure delivered solution follow the defined design process and QinetiQ governance procedures and processes through design reviews
> Keeping abreast of industry trends and advancements in information technology
> Build and enhance relationships with peers and QinetiQ's infrastructure services
> Taking responsible for undertaking project work across the team as required - participation in reference groups, training and research on new functionality etc.
> Working towards becoming recognised as a Network expert within QinetiQ
The successful candidate will have in-depth experience of installing and configuring Cisco Routers and Switches, and ideally have experience of Firewall products and network virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMWare NSX). CCNA Qualification is an advantage but not essential.
You will be at ease working within a small to medium sized team, able to undertake tasks outside of your primary skill set as required by the business. Your passion for IT will enable you to keep pace within an ever changing working environment where new technologies and working practices are embraced and quickly embedded into BAU activity.
The team support projects across a range of QinetiQ sites, so mobility is a key requirement of the role. Although based in Farnborough, the candidate will be expected to work at other QinetiQ sites as required - with travel & subsistence provided.
