Software Installation Engineer

We're looking for a Software Installation Engineer to help us shape the future of naval combat systems - the systems that keep the Royal Navy's ships and crews safe at sea.

Our naval combat systems are used across the Royal Navy's surface fleet, from Offshore Patrol Vessels carrying out anti-piracy and security operations, to Type 45 destroyers, patrolling the world's oceans and leading NATO task forces

As a Software Installation Engineer you will assist the Installation team to develop and maintain scripts and applications which enable the automated installation of software baselines relating to a number of complex Naval Combat System equipment (CSEs) including the CMS & Shared Infrastructure Products. The software systems are a complex combination of multi-million lines of source code developed in-house, integrated with a host of 3rd party COTS software packages to be deployed into a networked, multi-node system architecture. Ensuring such complex systems can be reliably & repeatedly deployed with the minimum of operator intervention is the core responsibility of the Software Installation team.

This role will provide you with exposure to multiple RN platforms including Queen Elizabeth Carrier, Type 26 Frigate, Type 45 Destroyer and the new River Class OPVs. All software developed will be highly configurable, in order to maximise commonality across CSEs.

Your main responsibilities as a Software Installation Engineer will involve:

Designing, developing and maintaining automation of system builds and clones

Designing, developing and maintaining the installation framework, applications and application specific installation solutions

Assisting with system installations

Performing investigations into issues discovered

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience in Windows operating systems

Experience in any structured programming language

An understanding of configuration management concepts

Desirable:

Windows 7/10/Server 2008/2012/2016 functionality

Active directory and domain knowledge

Windows Scripting Tools - VB Script, PowerShell or Batch Job, .Net Framework and XML

Windows security features

Networks (architecture and protocols)

What we're looking for in you:

You will be able to work in a team environment with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You will have a professional approach to dealing with the customer community, colleagues and suppliers.
