Junior Database Administrator

The Role:

As a Junior Database Administrator you will have the opportunity to showcase your database skills. This will include using SQL to design, install, upgrade, maintain, backup, secure and recover the databases of the group. You will be working as part of a team of four to resolve and design the information flow and content issues. You will be implanting robust and scalable applications whilst monitoring and analysing performance metrics. You will also perform back up and recovery procedures and help to further develop the tools that allow the end user to access data in a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibility of a Junior Database Administrator are but not limited to:

*Providing database access for the development, production and testing environments as well as production support.

*Identifying and resolving any issues with performance, capacity planning and efficiency improvements by monitoring and analysing all aspects of database utilisation.

*Configuring, installing and upgrading the DBMS software as well as backing it up.

*Finding a resolution for application and query-based performance issues.

*Editing, coding and implementing stored procedures for the purpose of accessing, maintaining and populating databases.

Skills and Experience Required:

*Studied to degree level in any subject such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics OR equivalent experience with an alternative qualification or work experience.

*Minimum of 2 years experience of database administration within a production environment.

*Experience with Oracle, SQL Service, T-SQL, PL/SQL.

*A basic comprehension of performance monitoring, analysis and tuning.

*Experience with Oracle databases, preferable using NetBackup whilst having exposure in SSRS, SSIS, SSAS.

*Experience in managing security and permissions whilst designing and implementing ETL packages using SQL server integration.

*Proficiency in PowerShell, Python coding and experience of virtualisation in Hyper-V or VMWare. (Desirable)

*Experience in Microsoft SQL-Server 2017 in a high transactional OLTP environment.

*Must have a very good working knowledge of database administration methodologies and techniques.

Benefits:

Starting salary of £25,000 - £34,000 depending on experience plus a comprehensive company benefits package!
