Real Time Recruitment Solutions https://www.rtrs.co.uk Mechanical Design Engineer | Contract | Buckinghamshire | ??45 per hour Ltd Co Propose original concept solutions to design challenges on new generation generator and starter generator products and to develop these into robust manufacturable detail designs. Lead the design activities on projects, providing design deliverables on time for the project and supervising more junior staff as required. Work Package Owner for Mechanical Design in a project team. To lead the Design engineering activities on R and T projects from the concept stage through development and qualification test and into technology readiness. The production of Design Schemes, including CAD models, assemblies and 2D drawings for concept and detail designs of electrical machines. To carry out design calculations such as interference fits, thermal growths, hoop and tensile stresses, thread loadings and tolerance analysis to support concept and detail designs. To liaise closely with other project team members such as stress, manufacturing, sourcing and configuration with respect to new designs or design changes. Operate in accordance with the Product Introduction Process (PIP) and lead the necessary gateway reviews. Be able to provide PIP process guidance to more junior designers. The production of design assurance documentation including ERN's and Design Reports The production and maintenance of design monitors spreadsheets such as performance, cost and weight. The production and maintenance of parts lists as defined by latest CAD assemblies. To agree monthly milestone targets to support project needs and timescales. Monitor progress and ensure satisfactory milestone compliance. To arrange and run design reviews in accordance with design procedure. To support the Lead Engineer to ensure the technical integrity of the product and that it meets all performance, reliability, cost and safety requirements. Provide support to other team members in completion of their activities.Candidate skills and requirements A Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification Must be self-sufficient and largely self-motivated. Ability to communicate clearly through written and verbal means to all levels of staff e.g. direct reports, interact with other Engineering teams and the external customer. Ability to work under pressure to meet program deadlines Extensive Design exposure esp. rotating equipment, shaft, bearings seals, structures etc. Exposure to state of the art 3D CAD software. Good exposure to MS Software i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project. Knowledge of electrical machines Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them. Must be able to produce designs with consideration of design to cost, and ease of manufacture and assembly. Good time management, proactive with an ability to prioritise. Must have the ability to plan work efficiently to meet agreed monthly milestone tasks. Must be able to produce and deliver technical presentations to employees and customers at any level.Skills matrix Rotating Machines Exposure (gearboxes, electrical machines, actuators, motors) Snr. Engineer (Mechanical) B.Eng / M.Eng or equivalent 3D CAD and PLM (Teamcentre / Windchill) Detailed Drawing (exposure ideally in BS308 / BS8888) GD and T (ISO standards preferable and formal training completed) Hand Calculations / Mechanical Analysis Engineering Report (Design report, Investigation reports etc) Additional Nice to haves: DFM / DFA Permits / Concession / Engineering Change Control (ECN/ ECR) Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS Worbench etc) Engineering Approval exposure
