Senior Composites Design Engineer

ROLE: 

Our client is seeking a Senior Composites Design Engineer to work within the Energy Storage System design project team working on the project. Responsibilities include driving the conceptual and detailed design of the ESS pack. This includes the global layout, the enclosure design, both composite and metallic race car parts, any manufacturing tooling required, experimental parts, rig testing and calculations/experimentation. As a senior member of the design team you will provide technical leadership as well as guidance to the design team.

Main Responsibilities: 
Creation of design schemes for evaluation of concepts 
Detail design of composite and metallic parts 
Liaising with other technical groups including electronics and suppliers 
Specification / design of test equipment required 
Organisation and overseeing of rig testing 
Data analysis and making recommendations for improvements 
Reporting of results in a clear, concise and structured manner 
Technical leadership, guidance and instilling best practice approach to the design team. 
Any other duties as reasonably required by the Company

Knowledge, Skills: 
Strong Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in similar discipline or equivalent knowledge  
Solid knowledge of working in motorsport (ideally within Formula One) or another cutting edge industry. 
Ability to create complex designs from schemes through to finished drawings including material selection, ply book, tooling and any test equipment required 
Strong Composite component design knowledge required, Metallic component design knowledge highly desirable 
Composite and Metallic component design.  
Previous knowledge of technical leadership and ability to lead other team members in composites design 
Previous knowledge of ESS part design knowledge of high powered electrical system design and composite selection is preferable, producing engineering drawings and familiarity with CAD packages required, Catia V5 preferable 
Knowledge of Formula One PU Installations advantageous 
NDT for structural composites advantageous
Knowledge of packaging complex interrelated assemblies desirable 
Previous knowledge of Formula One good practices and understanding of Formula One regulations is advantageous

An adept communicator, be able to build good relationships across all cultures both internally and externally 
Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Competence in Japanese or another European language is desirable 
Ability to travel within the UK and overseas 
Full driving licence and competence to drive in the UK 
PC literate
