DEVELOP A WORLD-CLASS DIGITAL FUTURE FOR MILLIONS

Why us, why now?

This is an unprecedented time for digital, data and technology in the UK government. Countries like the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are modelling their digital transformation on ours. Why? Because we're putting user needs at the heart of digital development to make government work better for everyone. We're 17,000 colleagues across government, and we're scaling up nationwide. Our new cloud model is giving us unparalleled agility and bravery to ensure government is equipped and inspired to deliver real, meaningful change. The potential to shape our society's future is enormous - and we want you to be part of it.

About the role

As our Developer, you'll play a lead role in the delivery of online forms development projects. Guiding how the team works, you'll improve software development practices, and implement toolkits and APIs for integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability. Collaborating across BEIS, you'll help to achieve the successful delivery of high-quality software products that meets the needs of users and government. You'll help build automated tests to support our continuous deployment environment, troubleshooting and resolving issues, throughout the life cycle. You'll share knowledge of tools and techniques with your wider team, both developers and non-developers. Taking the software design principles, you'll also code with help and supervision.

What we're looking for

You're proactive and you plan ahead. As well as being a self-starter, you're willing to learn and not afraid to fail. You're great at identifying key issues and ensuring they get the attention they deserve, at the earliest opportunity. You work well under pressure and to tight deadlines. What's more, you make quick and effective decisions when it comes problem solving and prioritising what's important. Of course, you're familiar with technical languages, particularly SharePoint, Azure, AWS, C#, Typescript and SQL. And, you know about GOV.UK and the Government Digital Service, and the service standard. Crucially, you're a team player who's ready to pick up varied tasks to make sure we deliver.

Help shape a truly digital government

If you're excited by an ever-evolving technological landscape and a fast-moving digital change agenda, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills to do what matters. Here, you'll be helping us respond to the changing needs and expectations of millions of people, delivering services that are simpler, faster and easier to use. And in return, you'll enjoy the fantastic range of benefits the Civil Service has to offer.
