PROVIDE VITAL SUPPORT WITHIN A WORLD-CLASS DIGITAL ENVIROMENT

Why us, why now?

This is an unprecedented time for digital, data and technology in the UK government. Countries like the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are modelling their digital transformation on ours. Why? Because we're putting user needs at the heart of digital development to make government work better for everyone. We're 17,000 colleagues across government, and we're scaling up nationwide. Our new cloud model is giving us unparalleled agility and bravery to ensure government is equipped and inspired to deliver real, meaningful change. The potential to shape our society's future is enormous - and we want you to be part of it.

About the role

As our Network Engineer, you'll respond to issues daily as well as proactively planning upgrades on a monthly basis. You'll be responsible for third-line resolution of IT network infrastructure incidents across service, and you'll assist in the security of all infrastructure platforms. Responsible for monitoring, alerting and maintaining the network environment including all LAN/WLAN/WAN and telephony platforms, you'll make the case for change. Working closely with our business partners, you'll assess impact and manage clients. Alongside our technical architects, you'll make recommendations towards improvements and standards. We'll expect you to own the network changes, following business processes to ensure delivery is within agreed SLAs. You'll monitor trends to proactively respond to issues. And, working with the Network Lead, you'll create processes and policies to ensure governance and reporting is in place.

What we're looking for

You're knowledgeable about cloud-based network technologies and infrastructure (AWS and Azure), as well as enterprise wireless solutions. You're also familiar with networking concepts, such as Transmission Control Protocol, Internet Protocol, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, IP Addressing, Variable Length Subnet Masks, Remote Access, cabling systems, wiring topologies, and security. Your experience covers corporate telephony technologies, and LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation. What's more, you're knowledgeable about network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices. You have a problem-solving attitude, and you're able to write, read and understand everything form technical manuals, to CAD drawings and blueprints, procedural documentation and OEM guides.

Help shape a truly digital government

If you're excited by an ever-evolving technological landscape and a fast-moving digital change agenda, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills to do what matters. Here, you'll be helping us respond to the changing needs and expectations of millions of people, delivering services that are simpler, faster and easier to use. And in return, you'll enjoy the fantastic range of benefits the Civil Service has to offer.
