ENGINEER A DIGITAL FUTURE FOR MILLIONS
Why us, why now?
This is an unprecedented time for digital, data and technology in the UK government. Countries like the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are modelling their digital transformation on ours. Why? Because we're putting user needs at the heart of digital development to make government work better for everyone. We're 17,000 colleagues across government, and we're scaling up nationwide. Our new cloud model is giving us unparalleled agility and bravery to ensure government is equipped and inspired to deliver real, meaningful change. The potential to shape our society's future is enormous - and we want you to be part of it.
About the role
As our Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be tasked with maintaining the security, confidentiality and integrity of information systems. You'll support, design and implement infrastructure technologies and solutions including compute, storage, infrastructure, software, virtual and cloud (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS). At all times, you'll ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. You'll integrate components, systems and interfaces to create operational services. With this, you'll plan, design, manage, execute and reports tests, using appropriate tools and techniques, working within regulations. You'll ensure risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented. Plus, you'll take ownership of problems and you'll resolve technical issues, ensuring these solutions align with the needs of the business.
What we're looking for
You're experienced in infrastructure and operations, with a detailed knowledge of AWS and Azure. Comfortable interacting with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners, you can also handle multiple tasks simultaneously, while prioritising what's important. You have an in-depth knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS, TCP/IP and SMTP, as well as a solid understanding of virtualisation technologies and best practices. With administration experience on enterprise technologies, your knowledge covers everything from Active Directory and Group Policy Management, to backup technologies and best practices, software deployment and patching, and virus and malware protection. Crucially, you're able to spot problems and formulate the right solution.
Help shape a truly digital government
If you're excited by an ever-evolving technological landscape and a fast-moving digital change agenda, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills to do what matters. Here, you'll be helping us respond to the changing needs and expectations of millions of people, delivering services that are simpler, faster and easier to use. And in return, you'll enjoy the fantastic range of benefits the Civil Service has to offer.
