The Company
Our client is an industrial engineering services group that provides turnkey engineering solutions to customers across the UK and Europe.
A division within the group specialises in mechanical handling and lifting equipment. Often working in ports, this division delivers large projects for customers in the defence, aerospace and power sectors.
Our client frequently supports the dismantling of large objects, such as cranes - and in one case, an aircraft hangar. Recently, they dismantled a crane, moving it from Bristol Docks to Glastonbury, to support the set-up of Glastonbury festival.
They are now looking for a Multi-Skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their team and support the delivery of their projects.

The Role
As a Multi-Skilled Mechanical Engineer, you will install, maintain and service mechanical handling equipment, both in our client's workshop in Bath and at sites throughout the UK.
Specifically, you will:
- Complete servicing, preventative maintenance and repair works
- Carry out fault-finding, parts replacement and repairs on heavy plant and machinery
- Support Welders and Fabricators with minor cosmetic repairs through to major structural repairs
- Help the Slingers and Riggers to dismantle redundant plant and construct new equipment
- Measure mechanical components to determine their wear and expected lifespan
- Help with the assembly, testing, commissioning, setting to work and through-life maintenance of mechanical equipment
Please note, this is a physically demanding role that will involve working at heights.
About You
To be considered as a Multi-Skilled Mechanical Engineer, you'll need:
- Excellent maintenance knowledge
- A time served engineering apprenticeship
- A full driving licence
- At a minimum, a Level 3 NVQ qualification (or equivalent)
Experience of some, or all, of the following would be beneficial: cranes, mechanical handling equipment, material handling plant, lifting equipment and industrial gearboxes, brakes and couplings.
Experience of any of the following would also be an advantage: fabrication and welding techniques, mobile line boring equipment, including setting-up and completing machining operations, slinging/rigging operations, or engineering/maintaining heavy plant/equipment in a port of similar environment. A basic understanding of electrical engineering would be equally favourable.
