LEAD A WORLD-CLASS STANDARD FOR DIGITAL GOVERNMENT

Why us, why now?

This is an unprecedented time for digital, data and technology in the UK government. Countries like the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are modelling their digital transformation on ours. Why? Because we're putting user needs at the heart of digital development to make government work better for everyone. We're 17,000 colleagues across government, and we're scaling up nationwide. Our new cloud model is giving us unparalleled agility and bravery to ensure government is equipped and inspired to deliver real, meaningful change. The potential to shape our society's future is enormous - and we want you to be part of it.

About the role

As our Head of Digital Delivery, you'll manage complex products and services that are discovered, defined and delivered by multiple teams. Some may bring high technical or political risk, but you'll drive momentum, solving issues and unblocking problems. In short, you'll set a sustainable pace, influencing positive change all around you. As you'd expect, this role is about leading and continually improving development, release and provision. You'll apply scaled lean and agile management methods and techniques, as well as setting, monitoring, managing and reporting costs, budgets, plans, forecasts, progress, risks, benefits and KPIs. You'll hold commercial contracts and suppliers to account for their timeliness, value and quality. Collaborating with senior colleagues, you'll develop and deliver a high-level strategy, as well as getting involved in the smaller details of key challenges.

What we're looking for

You bring a track record of understanding and managing complex stakeholder groups, and you're able to balance key priorities, as well as communicating and advocating direction and change. You're thoroughly familiar with the variety of disciplines involved in digital delivery. And you're experienced in commercial, supplier and dependency management. You bring an open and sharing attitude to work, and you're an authority on leading agile sessions and conferences, inside and outside government. You're comfortable with uncertainty, accountability and being the escalation point for internal and external issue. As well as being experienced in securing funding for agile delivery, you've previously aligned organisations and cultures to strategic change. And, of course, you know about GOV.UK and the Government Digital Service, and the service standard.

Help shape a truly digital government

If you're excited by an ever-evolving technological landscape and a fast-moving digital change agenda, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills to do what matters. Here, you'll be helping us respond to the changing needs and expectations of millions of people, delivering services that are simpler, faster and easier to use. And in return, you'll enjoy the fantastic range of benefits the Civil Service has to offer.
