WORLD-CLASS DEVELOPMENT BEGINS IN A WORLD-CLASS ENVIRONMENT Why us, why now? This is an unprecedented time for digital, data and technology in the UK government. Countries like the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are modelling their digital transformation on ours. Why? Because we're putting user needs at the heart of digital development to make government work better for everyone. We're 17,000 colleagues across government, and we're scaling up nationwide. Our new cloud model is giving us unparalleled agility and bravery to ensure government is equipped and inspired to deliver real, meaningful change. The potential to shape our society's future is enormous - and we want you to be part of it. About the role As our Senior Developer, you'll be responsible for the quality of code produced across technology. You'll implement toolkits and APIs for integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability. What's more, you'll share knowledge of tools and techniques with your wider team, including developers and non-developers. Act as a digital ambassador across BEIS, you'll identify good practices we should adopt and you'll share experiences, through blog posts and tech talks at conferences. You'll also help build the developer team, supporting the recruitment of key talent and selecting third party developers. Providing technical leadership, you'll advise and collaborate within the team to identify the best solutions. You'll take responsibility for solving complex issues, as well as applying broad knowledge of web technologies. What we're looking for You're proactive and you plan ahead. You're great at identifying key issues and ensuring they get the attention they deserve, at the earliest opportunity. You work well under pressure and to tight deadlines. And, you make quick and effective decisions when it comes problem solving and prioritising what's important. You're experienced in programming and building solutions, as well as reviewing specifications to design, code and test user centric services. You're also a self-starter, willing to learn and not afraid to fail. You know about GOV.UK and the Government Digital Service, and the service standard. You're a team player, ready to pick up varied tasks to make sure we deliver. Help shape a truly digital government If you're excited by an ever-evolving technological landscape and a fast-moving digital change agenda, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills to do what matters. Here, you'll be helping us respond to the changing needs and expectations of millions of people, delivering services that are simpler, faster and easier to use. And in return, you'll enjoy the fantastic range of benefits the Civil Service has to offer. Closing date: 23:59, 18th July 2019
