An experienced Application Support Manager is required by a government body, based in Stevenage.

The Role

This position is responsible for how the partner organisations apply information technology to support their major business functions and activities. Thus, the post holder must have expertise in systems analysis techniques, development tools, information architecture, security and governance, databases, and systems integration.

Responsibilities

* Management of six Application support analyst's

* Management of all Information Systems, known collectively as the 'Applications Portfolio

* Ensure applications have functionality to support business functions

* Ensure performance of system meets requirements

* Oversee the upgrading to the latest release, re-designing and re-implementing a solution as required

* Making the case to replace application as required due to changes in the wider ICT environment of requirements of business.

* Production of strategy for the management of the Applications Portfolio

* The day-to-day support and on-going maintenance information systems is a key responsibility, including the availability and performance of the Relational Database Management Systems that underpin those systems.

* Provide technical expertise to support colleagues resolve problems

* The post holder is responsible for the planning and delivery of a programme of system upgrade projects.

* Responsible for managing the Software Development Process used to create bespoke systems and enhancements.

* Examples of tasks routinely undertaken by the post holder on a daily basis which are likely to each take in excess of two hours to complete are:

* Writing, analysing and reviewing computer programs or implementing third party applications

* Using problem solving skills to locate and correct problems in business applications

* Compiling documentation of computer programs, ensuring that it facilitates knowledge transfer and can be used by others to support and maintain systems.

Experience Required

* Experience in management of a ICT team

* Experience in Project Management

* Experience in financial management of budgets

* Management qualification / degree level or equivalent qualification or experience

* ITIL Practitioner

* Experience in change management

Specific knowledge related to Information Systems:

* Relational Database Management Theory

* Structured Query Language

* SQL Server

* Desktop Programming Languages (E.g. VB.net)

* Web Programming Languages (E.g. HTML, PHP, JavaScript).

* Business Objects (Report Design, Universe Design, Dimensional Modelling)
