This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Portfolio, Programme and Project Managers to join the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Directorate of Transformation Team and deliver our ambitious new approach to modernise and transform the way the MOD operates.

Transformation is one of the key priorities in the MOD and the successful applicant will play a central role in planning, developing, and delivering products and tools that will deliver a consistent approach to change across a wide range of stakeholders as part of Defence's large-scale and long-term transformation agenda. The role will exist in an environment to develop the right behaviours and mindsets required to improve the Department's attitude to change.

Main Responsibilities 

Project Management

Accountable for creating and leading a project to ensure it delivers agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.

Day to day running of the project team, providing effective leadership and management controls. You will adopt appropriate project management delivery methodologies, managing the effective transition between project phases, and helping to design the project structure and organisation appropriate to stage.

The Project Manager will be responsible for building a motivated and capable team to deliver the project, developing capability and fostering an inclusive culture of innovation.

Coordinate the development of business cases, tracking delivery within budget. Schedule / manage resources to deliver the project independently or within a small team.

Stakeholder Management

Identify and manage collaborative stakeholder relationships, actively engaging and bringing in senior level support when required. In most cases this will mean managing both internal and external relationships as appropriate.

 Risk Management

Identify, monitor and manage project risks and issues, develop mitigating strategies and escalate as appropriate. Identify and work with related projects to manage interdependencies.

Project Planning, Performance and Control

Develop and maintain project plans, identifying and recommending appropriate project controls, providing key reports to support reporting progress to sponsors.

Governance and Assurance

The Project Manager will provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making. They will also be responsible for cascading the vision for the project and set up or support the appropriate project assurance.

 Business Transformation

The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the strategic fit of the project with the wider organisational strategy and actively engaging with stakeholders to ensure the project remains viable. This includes putting in place effective processes to document any changes to deliverables and ensure that they are communicated and agreed with the relevant stakeholders.

This vacancy is for both Senior Executive Officers (MOD Band C1) and Higher Executive Officers (MOD Band C2). All candidates will be assessed for their suitability against both grades. The level of post offered will reflect the level of competence as assessed by the interviewing panel. Therefore, applicants should be aware they may be recruited at either grade.

Salary

C1 salary £40,166 per annum & C2 salary £32,970 per annum

Allowances

This position will attract Inner London weighting of £3,000 per annum.
