Our client, a highly respected company within engineering research and consultancy in Oxfordshire, are looking to hire a Controls Engineer.Working with their mechanical engineering team you will collaboratively develop the solutions required by their clients. You should be able to demonstrate experience developing software to be deployed on third party PLC's (Beckhoff, Siemens, National Instruments) to control electromechanical systems. In addition there will be opportunities to develop hardware dedicated to their own needs. You will also need to support the equipment in the field, most commonly via remote sessions, but some international travel will be required.They are proud of their reputation for quality, and you will be expected to work to high standards, delivering solutions on time and within budget. You will work directly with both suppliers and clients, so experience in a customer facing role is desirable although not essential.You'll work with the team on product development to continue the company's reputation of delivering cutting edge technology, whilst also providing clients with first class service. Applicants who are likely to be successful for this role may have a background in: test engineering, academic research, instrumentation and electronics.We are looking for someone who is:Technically inquisitive: you will help our team to innovate and deliver novel solutions for our clientsElectrically biased: you will primarily support / develop our software packagesHands on: you will need a practical approach to help us resolve technical issues and meet deadlines.A great communicator: you will be dealing with project teams and clients at all levels around the world.Flexible: you will be able to respond positively and adapt to changing priorities. Pre-requisite qualifications and experience for this role are:A post graduate qualification: MEng / MSc / PhD in a scientific subject matter where coding has been undertaken in a testing environment.Software coding using some of the following: .NET, Python, Visual Basic, C, Fortran.Good with numbers: you will need to perform calculations to demonstrate the software design.While not essential, strengths in the following areas would be a real bonus:Knowledge of EtherCAT and TwinSAFE control systems.Background knowledge of wave theory.Language skills: excellent spoken and written English will be the minimum requirement.
