The purpose is to evolve the provision of IT services and products such that individual departments and business led projects can develop their own Information Technology consumption models.

The role will develop close working relationships with our suppliers to showcase and evaluate technology innovations, establishing proof of value / concept exercises to educate and inform on our technology choices and support the development of business cases for change and transformation.

Other responsibilities cover the financial planning, software licensing, hardware asset management and resource management & governance across the department.

Accountable for ensuring IT continues to provide value for money through:IT Governance & Supplier Management accountable for ensuring our IT suppliers continue to deliver excellent service, managing IT Risk, ensuring compliance of all IT Systems and Services with Industry and Contractual standards / accreditation. Owns and governs the IT Service Processes including Change & Problem Management, Software Licensing, auditing & Departmental reporting.Resource Management accountable for ensuring our people are in the right place at the right time to deliver the projects, products and services we are called upon to provide.

The position focuses on ensuring that the IT function "does the right things" through commercial strategy and governance, as well as "doing things right" through organisational and operational innovation.

Key AccountabilitiesYou will partner with the Group IT Director and other heads of department to develop, maintain and track an IT budget that supports the day to day operation and multi-year IT transformation programme. Ensure that appropriate governance, performance management, reporting and the definition of IT ways of working (for example, common methodologies, processes, and tools for developing and operating IT) are deployed and effective. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving focus and prioritisation within the IT organisation through establishing commercially strategic planning and governance principles and processes. This will also include overseeing the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance - as well as performance management frameworks and metrics - to ensure the IT organisation delivers value to the enterprise.Working with the Group IT Director and business leadership team, providing broad insight to IT domains and capabilities in support of enterprise-wide business decisions, as well as establishing and implementing continuous-improvement programs for the IT organisation. You will stay current with developments in new technology market trends and innovations, cyber threats, and is a proactive leader of enterprise IT. Development of the Functional Management capability to ensure that all people managers in the department are providing a consistent duty of care and supporting Delivery Managers in the execution of their duties through the timely provision of permanent and contracted resources sufficiently skilled to deliver the task in hand.Key Capabilities/ Knowledge:Strong leadership capability, executing as appropriate in the areas of responsibilityExpertise in IT technology, developing business focused IT strategy, budget preparation, planning and tracking, and, workforce management.Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hypeAbility to improve operational efficiency, service delivery and information management across the IT organisationExcellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade othersKnowledge of IT service management, i.e. Service Catalogue management, Service-level management, Availability management, Capacity management, IT service continuity management, Information security management and Supplier Management, e.g. ITILKnowledge of IT development and support in the Government/Defence domain.Education & Qualifications:Bachelor's or master's degree in business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience15 or more years in IT and business/industryA minimum of five to seven years of leadership responsibilitiesExperience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
