As a Principal Software Engineer, you will work as part of the Application Development team on new and existing platforms, both designing and implementing new systems and also developing enhancements to both customer facing web based systems and backend systems.

The Application Development teams run with a strong service focus. They work hard to ensure that our customers - both internal and external - are delivered robust, easy to use and well maintained systems.

Minimum requirements (essential)

*Excellent knowledge of software development using Java or C# with supporting frameworks and technologies

*Excellent knowledge and experience of agile software development methodologies such as Scrum

*Excellent knowledge of source control mechanisms, configuration management, software build processes and IDEs

*Excellent ability to identify technical problems and propose viable solutions. Excellent understanding of troubleshooting systems and optimising applications, with proven practical experience.

*Excellent knowledge of SQL Server and database design, with proven practical experience

*Good knowledge of XML and related technologies (DTD's, schemas, XSLT etc.), with proven practical experience

*Good knowledge of software design patterns and software architecture principles

*Knowledge of Microsoft Team Foundation Server

*Good understanding of software testing methodologies and automated testing tools, with proven practical experience

*Experience in working directly with users/customers

*Good verbal and written communication skills.

*Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

*Ability to work as part of a team.

*A Technology related degree level qualification, equivalent professional qualification or equivalent experience.

Additional requirements (desirable)

*Knowledge and experience of web site development using Javascript and CSS

*Knowledge of software development for Microsoft Dynamics CRM

*Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics CRM

*Knowledge of implementing web services.

*Knowledge of data formats such as MARC XML, Dublin Core, METS etc.

*Knowledge of Enterprise Architect UML CASE Tool, Archimate or similar.

*Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint administration
