A BIG role to build our Bristol Enterprise Data Content Services team.
We have ambitious plans to build our Enterprise Data Content Services Lab & deliver data change and services at scale.
Within the Enterprise Data Value Stream, our purpose is to "Enable the Bank to gain value from data by providing safe and efficient Group-wide data capabilities and services".
As our Engineering Lead for the Enterprise Data Content Services Lab, you'll have the chance to help us with the "HOW". "HOW" we best use our tech? "HOW" best we move to Agile ways of working? "HOW" we best assemble our teams? of data users, data experts and engineering colleagues who are dedicated to provisioning the best data for the bank user communities and tooling to help them use that data.
In our unique role, we'll give you the freedom to make a massive difference, working with the wider business to move large parts of this estate to the Cloud.
You'll work directly with the teams and the lab Product Owner to continually identify, prioritise and implement engineering improvements that need to take place to improve the effectiveness of delivering change to our customers.
Delivering what our users want is at the heart of our business and this is true in the Lab where we deliver both products and experiences to make data an accessible asset for our colleagues.
We'll utilize the latest tools and techniques to build data that will enable the bank of the future, working collaboratively with Value Streams who provide the opportunities to deliver data solutions to meet Enterprise Data's key strategic goals, as well as working with the other service labs within Enterprise Data.
You'll encourage teams to actively participate in forums and meet-ups through which our engineering methods and practices can be shared and developed so that new ideas can be brought back to the lab to further improve the engineering team's effectiveness.
You'll be responsible for recruitment and growing existing engineering talent across the engineering teams and disciplines to enable teams to be the best they can be.
You'll enable a culture of learning and continuous improvement through a "Fail Fast, Learn Faster" mentality within teams to experiment and test new ways of engineering and to act as a change agent for engineering and team culture.
We're building our biggest Engineering community, who'll share knowledge across Chapters, across broader Value Streams via Engineering Communities and Guilds. Creating a diverse engineering culture where we actively promote from within.

*You'll work with the Product Owner and data content teams to build an inspiring data content services engineering strategy that provides inspiration and purpose to the content service teams.
*You'll be responsible for creating amazing data content capabilities for our customers using your technical expertise to deliver change through contemporary engineering tools and methods and by inspiring the engineering teams to be embrace agile principles, encourage innovation, and foster a "Fail Fast, Learn Faster" approach.
*You & the team will build & deliver the best possible outcome for our customers while also supporting the financial, commercial, compliance and risk interests of the organisation.
*You'll look out for & hire new talent with a focus on building amazing teams with a collaborative and inclusive culture, where teams are empowered to test and learn, while automating and re-using capabilities wherever possible.
*You'll be able to nurture teams, support them through a culture of openness and trust, and to make teams the best they can be.
*You'll bring a strong passion and technical understanding of how to acquire, organise and present data through a variety of access systems. You'll provide support, knowledge and mentoring to the teams. This includes helping teams to use the best engineering practices, tooling and methods and to encourage them to contribute towards inner-source activities and attend MeetUps.
*You're an inspiring communicator who'll be able to work with all levels of the organisation, energising teams and ensuring communication is flowing affectively
About you... what skills, qualities, background are we looking for?
*You'll be a visionary, who is able to provide an engineering strategy and roadmap
*You'll have experience working with large scale data content based solutions using big data technologies such as Hadoop
*You'll bring an extensive software engineering background with programming languages & frameworks that include JSON, Scala & Apache Spark 2
*You'll bring a passion for technology and an enthusiasm to continually learn, adapt and develop your career.
*You'll have experience of fostering an environment where teams are empowered to be autonomous and self-sufficient and you'll provide purpose, guidance and support where needed.
*You'll be a self-starter, who inspires and motivates the teams around you
*You'll be adept to listen and reflect and respect the views of others as well as being able to communicate your own opinion but you're not strongly tied to it
