As an IT Test & Release Manager will provide an effective level of rigor and assurance for testing all changes being made to the IT estate prior to deployment into production environments and live service operation.

The scope of changes to be tested cover a range of IT applications and infrastructure (public cloud facing platforms and distributed retail environments). The type of changes to be supported vary from more frequent digital sprint based updates, upgrades / new releases of packaged software platforms and infrastructure related upgrades some of which are compliance related.

It's an exciting time to join our IT team as we are currently launching ourselves into the future with regards to our front end applications and this role will play a pivotal role in this, from testing from the prototype stage to taking it into a full business as usual setting.

The Role

Develop and maintain a test strategy and framework including use of automation tools, processes and best practices that cover the UKI IT landscape (web/app, point of sale, integration, API testing, cloud-based platforms and retail infrastructure)

Maintain test environments so that they are capable of supporting functional and non-functional testing (including information security requirements) in relation to the level of demand from projects and BAU activity. This will cover the alignment of test environments with IT partners

Provide direct support to project and change programmes delivering new IT capability ensuring the test approach is agreed and resourced as part of the planning phase and appropriate to the scale / associated risk of the change being introduced

Plan, monitor and manage test approach (SIT, UAT, regression and all other test activities) to track and monitor the health of build and level of defects

Evaluate risks and issues while also feeding back to projects and key stakeholders on potential challenges to timelines associated with release plans across environments

Work closely with key IT partners to ensure their testing and QA approach is fit for purpose prior to being made available for systems integration and UAT

Providing regular test performance metrics to key stakeholders and IT partners, including risks, issues and defect tracking

Develop and maintain a release management schedule that sets out major release windows in conjunction with the Change Approval Board (CAB) to best support delivery of business outcomes

What does it take?

Proven background of building and managing test functions for multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic environment

Team leading experience in software testing, practices within different development methodologies - waterfall and agile

Excellent understanding of testing software, technologies and processes

Advanced knowledge of building and executing automated tests

Experience of web-based applications and API testing

Good knowledge of all phases of the software development lifecycle specialising in automated, performance, and database testing

Use of defect management with tools such as JIRA

ISEB/ISTQB qualification or equivalent
