A global manufacturing company is seeking a Graduate or an experienced Optical Design Engineer to join its teams based in West Sussex with a reputation for innovation and a trusted name, the company is the only manufacturer of intraocular lenses in the UK, selling to over 70 countries globally. Its products have restored sight to millions of people worldwide and are at an exciting stage of new investment and development of our business and people.This Graduate role involves all aspects of the design and performance of ophthalmic products - critical to the company as we strive to maintain our position as a market leader in innovation. As the Graduate you will be involved from concept feasibility through to full-scale manufacturing. You will also be involved in aspects of production processes, both improving and maintaining current processes and the introduction of new systems. As part of a medical device manufacturing team, you will be expected to help ensure all processes are fully validated to a level consistent with the needs of the relevant regulatory bodies. This is an excellent opportunity to develop innovative products that will help restore sight to many thousands of people all over the world.
As an (experienced Engineer) your duties will include:
Develop new ophthalmic products.Work with universities and external contractors to develop new products and processes.Project manage cross-departmental project teams to deliver new products to market.Work with production to solve manufacturing issues.Work with Regulatory Affairs to provide data for regulatory bodies. To be a successful (experienced Engineer) you will have the following skills and experience:
Zemax design software experience.Degree in science/engineering or equivalent professional experience.PhD involving optical system/component design is advantageous.Experience in optical component/system design.Experience working within a multidisciplinary project team.Ability to understand, digest and disseminate complex concepts at levels appropriate for the target audience. Experience in optical component fabrication (e.g. diamond turning) is advantageous.Experience of working to medical device regulations and directive (ISO13485, FDA QSR 21, CFR 820 etc.) is advantageous.Experience using MATLAB is advantageous.Knowledge of diffractive optics is advantageous. The role is open to applications from all level of candidates from Graduates in Physics or Photonics or equivalent to a Senior Optical Engineers with Zemax software experience.
In return, the Graduate will receive a salary of £30,000 - £60,000 per annum depending on the experience, and a great pension, life and benefit packages expected at this level.
