My client a leading and well-known learning institute based in London. The students and staff have dedicated themselves in the service of society.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic IT manager to take a leading role across the IT team of an internationally leading university research School and the central research IT team. The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the management of the support service and the IT architecture documentation. They will also have input into all aspects of the operation and strategic development of the computing infrastructure that supports the clinical and research activities of the School.

Currently there are about 600 members in the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences. The current infrastructure relies on multiple platforms or technologies, including Windows and Linux clients and servers, Mac laptops and workstation, High Performance Computing (HPC) systems and GPU workstations and servers.

The post holder should be familiar with most of these technologies.

The computer and clinical systems in the School are deployed on two networks, one administered by KCL and one by the GSTT (Guy's and Saint Thomas's NHS Trust). The post holder will be collocated between the School dedicated IT team and the central KCL research solution IT team and will engage actively with both teams.

The successful applicant responsibilities will include documenting existing infrastructure, provide line management to members of the team, client and server system administration, networking setup, setting up hardware, installing and maintaining software, software licensing, data backups and virtualisation technologies amongst others.

The post holder is expected to be a proactive individual, able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Documentation:

*To clearly document existing infrastructure

*To maintain documentation, ensuring that changes and modification are recorded.

*To review and maintain the appropriate standards operating procedures

*Planning and Management

*To provide line management to one or more members of the Support Team, across a range of skill sets, providing formal line management and liaison, and conducting appraisals as required.

*To liaise with the members of all users groups to determine requirements for the infrastructure.

*To liaise with the database/software development team on upgrades to hardware of software as and when required.

*To liaise with other members of the Support Team to ensure that modifications of the infrastructure are completed with the minimum of disruptions to service

*To liaise with Information Systems at KCL and GSTT

*To communicate to all members of staff across the site regarding all aspects of the infrastructure.

*To liaise with external suppliers and support groups, ensuring that the School receives value for money from all dealings with external bodies.

*To assist the School on infrastructure management and development issues and to take an active role in the specification and delivery of an effective strategy.

*Plan and actively manage resources for researchers generating, archiving and analysing data in various formats from diverse imaging devices

Person Specification:

*Current knowledge of Linux / Unix operating systems and associated infrastructure and services AND Current knowledge of Windows operating systems and associated infrastructure and services.

*Current knowledge of configuration and installation of Windows client and server systems.

*A thorough knowledge of network and internet protocols, including network security.

*Knowledge of management of the full lifecycle of research data, including active data, data backups and validation, and data archiving, etc.

*Knowledge of Wireless networking configuration and principles.

*Enthusiastic and imaginative approach to new projects and tasks.

*Flexible approach to hours of work and duties.

*You may be required to work irregular hours in accordance with the needs of the role.
