London Secretly we're just like you. MI6 is the UK's foreign human intelligence agency. In our world, sophisticated technology and innovative techniques enable global covert operations. These strengthen our approach to gathering secret intelligence overseas. And our culture is where creativity, curiosity, insight and intuition are used to face ever-evolving challenges. To ensure we remain ahead of the game, we're looking for the country's brightest Software Engineering Specialists. The role We put technology at the heart of how we work, and it's an exciting, demanding time for those who already think digital. But, as an organisation that's built on human relationships, it's important our engineers are also good with people. For this vital and varied role, you'll need to balance competing priorities, such as the need for pace, rigour and security. Not only that, you'll ensure the tools you build are compliant with the law and always add value. In our fast-changing and unpredictable world, this is a chance to use your passion for technology to solve a unique set of MI6 mission-related problems, and safeguard the nation.  About you You're someone we can invest in, who's ready to learn and wants to develop their skills in a world-class team. What's more, you're on the pulse of new technologies and ideas, including Big Data, Cloud Computing, UX Design and Machine Learning. But you can also think carefully about their implications for our mission. With proven industry experience in at least one modern programming language (Java, JavaScript, Python/Spark or C#), you'll quickly get to work on technologies such as Node.js, RESTful Interfaces, Hadoop Ecosystem, NoSQL and containerisation. Plus, you'll have knowledge of the broader software engineering lifecycle, including application architecture, toolchains and design methodologies. Having experience of using Agile methodologies is also highly desirable, as is an awareness of modern test practices, DevOps tools, Open Source ways of working and systems integration. Tenacity, adaptability and working well under pressure are central to the role. And whatever your background - whether it's formal higher education, apprenticeships or self-taught - you'll have created and delivered a range of software solutions. Apply Our roles are as individual as you are. Find out more and apply via our website. To apply to MI6 you must be a born or naturalised British citizen, over 21 years old and normally have been based in the UK for six of the last ten years. You should not discuss your application with anyone other than your partner or a close family member providing that they are British. They should also be made aware of the importance of discretion. MI6 strives for diversity in the workplace and is committed to the creation and maintenance of a climate in which all staff are treated fairly on the grounds of merit and ability.
