Estates Engineer x3
Poole, Dorset
£35,993 - £42,345 DOE Plus Excellent Benefits

Our client is the charity that saves lives at sea. They're currently looking for three Estates Engineers to join their team.

Our client operates a fleet of over 300 fast, modern lifeboats from a network of 238 lifeboat stations around the coasts of the UK, the ROI, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man as well as providing a beach lifeguard service on over 200 beaches. The boathouses and maritime engineering structures upon which these essential services depend are usually located in challenging and exposed locations. Our client is proud of their tradition of building to a high standard; many existing boathouses and slipways have withstood harsh marine environments for over 100 years and still provide good service today.

It is the Institution's Estates Office that has the responsibility for the procurement and management of our client's growing capital works programme, ensuring that their high standards are maintained and that the needs of modern and expanding Lifeboat and Lifeguard services are met.

The Estates Engineer role is primarily client-side technical project management; encompassing the development of a project brief to comply with our client's design guide, assisting with the selection of the external design team and then to develop the project with this team as an ‘Expert Client'. You'll ensure the proposed building meets our client's standards for quality, longevity, and low maintenance. You will then lead the development of the project through to construction and completion, using your knowledge and skills to assist the team to a successful conclusion.

The role is suitable for someone who enjoys working on different projects with a varying mix of technical project management, construction supervision, contract management and more general estates management. There will also be opportunities to engage in detailed design work on smaller or specialist elements of projects.

To be considered as an Estates Engineer, you will need:

- Experience of technical project management, ideally client-side, including building, construction and site management
- Previous experience of engineering, construction and maintenance in a maritime environment
- Experience of building materials and construction techniques and processes
- A degree (or equivalent) in civil or structural engineering or building studies

Ideally, you'll be a chartered or incorporated member of a relevant professional body, such as the Institution of Civil or Structural Engineers, but this isn't essential. A project management qualification, such as PRINCE2 or APM, would also be beneficial.

The role encompasses significant internal and external stakeholder engagement requiring you to have excellent communication skills. You should have the ability to communicate well to build good relationships with a diverse range of organisations and individuals, including statutory bodies, design consultants, contractors and our client's volunteer crews.

Our client is committed to safeguarding; ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. They expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting).

The closing date for applications is the 15th April 2019, with interviews scheduled to be held on the 29th April 2019.

Our client's staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. Our client is an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using our client's expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
