As a Product Applications Technician you will mainly be responsible for (but not limited to) the duties described in this job description. Job Purpose & ContextThis role is for a Chemist/Physicist/Materials Scientist to work in the Product Applications department focussed on the characterisation and development of product specifications.The technician level role exists to provide technical support for Applications projects as required. With a particular focus on sample preparation, processing and sample analysis. Some data analysis and technical ownership of sub-projects may be required. Main ResponsibilitiesTo conduct scientific experiments and perform tests in the laboratory.To gain expertise in the main analytical techniques.To monitor, record and report work through lab notebooks on a continuous basis as well as via written reports and verbal communication/ presentations.To analyse data using Excel, Origin and Statistical Analysis Software.To ensure work progresses according to plan and inform supervisor if problems arise.To maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment in the laboratory.To participate in team discussions. Additional ResponsibilitiesTake ownership of sub-projects as required.To assist with Applications projects as required.Machine maintenance / troubleshooting with supervision. Key Relationships and InterfacesProduct Line Management.Research & Development.Engineering Team.Programme Management.Facilities.Marketing. Academic Qualifications or Key KnowledgeDegree in Chemistry, Physics, Surface Science or Materials Science OR at least five years' experience working in lab environment. Skills & ExperienceEssentialKnowledge of chemistry and/or physics, and/or material science.Experience of scientific analysis and report writing.Experience working as part of a project team.Experienced in laboratory work including handling chemicals, and able to work safely with minimal supervision.With the assistance of others, the ability to trouble-shoot processes, procedures and machine issues.Microsoft Office (good working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint). DesirablePrior experience in a commercial laboratory / manufacturing environment.Experience of product or process development.
