This is a great opportunity to join the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) at a pivotal moment in our digital transformation. Our people are working in every continent, providing diplomatic duties, offering assistance in conflict zones and ensuring British citizens and businesses are protected - wherever they are in the world. Due to the nature of our work, we need to be agile and think innovatively, so it is vital that our technological capabilities match this complex task. We have therefore undergone an extensive roll-out of new technology across the FCO, and we are seeking a forward-thinking individual to be at the helm of this exciting development.

In this high-profile role, you will take responsibility for raising awareness of new and emerging technologies across the FCO, seeing to it that all colleagues are making the most of the tech available to them. Leading the Labs team who are creating new processes and tools to enable the most effective ways of working, you will be tasked with ensuring that the FCO becomes a truly digital workplace. With your decisions affecting both front-line and operational activities, you will be keen to work in collaboration with other government departments and the private sector to share expertise and identify new opportunities. As such, you will shape the FCO's digital agenda, working with senior colleagues (such as the Chief Information Officer) to offer advice and guidance, and taking a critical view of our digital, data and technology capabilities - thereby ensuring that we are prepared for whatever the future holds.

To be equal to this dynamic challenge, you will currently be working in a senior management capacity in a digital, data or technology role, and you will have user-centred design or agile experience. As a British citizen, you will be public service motivated, and your communication skills will be exceptional. It goes without saying that you will be a natural leader with a background of working with senior stakeholders, and you will be comfortable making effective decisions in a fast-paced environment. Crucially, you will be able to motivate and inspire the team to achieve great results, and you will lead by example when encouraging them to work as a collaborative unit. As a lateral thinker, you will address challenges creatively, seeing the bigger picture at all times.

As a progressive department, we are determined to give our people the facilities they need to do their jobs to an exceptional standard - and we apply the same mentality to keeping our staff happy. We want you to thrive with us, so you will have all the support you need to elevate the potential of the Labs team. We will take care of your own personal future too, with a competitive benefits package, a work/life balance that includes flexible working options, and the chance to network extensively with the industry's most influential thinkers. Join us, and witness your input making a tangible difference to the working lives of 14,000 people.
