Would you like to join an ambitious and forward-looking unit of analysts, researchers and data experts?
Providing secure, ‘private' means to share data across a range of public, private and voluntary organisations is becoming an increasingly important area of development for cities, including London.
As part of a growing City Data team, we are looking for two Back-End developers to plan and build supporting data infrastructure, working with front-end developers, data scientists and subject experts from both the Greater London Authority and Digital Greenwich as well as partners and suppliers from the EU Sharing Cities project. Your work will have a particular focus on:
how cities access big data from Internet of Things devices, including smart lampposts and flexible energy grids
secure sharing of data for analytics and predicting the demand for public services
You will have the opportunity to work on high profile projects such as the award-winning London DataStore, Sharing Cities and the London Office for Technology & Innovation.
This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience, but you will need to bring with you a strong technical background including expert knowledge in a combination of the following areas:
Experience of creating server side processes working closely with front-end developers and system admins
Experience of developing, documenting and maintaining reusable and extendable cross platform web services/APIs
Experience of using frameworks
Python, Java and Node (or similar)
Well written markdown documentation
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.
In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days' annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan, childcare voucher scheme and a career average pension scheme.
If you enjoy problem solving at a high level - apply today.
Application closing date: Monday 22 April 2019 at 23:59 GMT.
Interviews will take place at: City Hall on Tuesday 30th April 2019.
This is a 18-month Fixed Term Contract
