Cascade relevant company announcements and keep the team up to date on the reasons for any new developments or changes in goals or in the organisation. Collect regular feedback from the team and determine actions on this, acting decisively to remove barriers to success, where possible. Periodically update the company on the team's progress.

Foster an atmosphere of trust and open dialogue - Ensure staff experience a working environment where they can voice questions, suggestions or constructive dissent for open discussion. Provide support and coaching rather than criticism, even where mistakes have been made. Treat all team members fairly, equally and with respect.

Team development - take an active interest in and support individuals' personal development. Identify areas where individuals in the team can improve and either provide one-to-one or team coaching or support them to identify suitable development resources. Understand the career aspirations of the individuals in the team and be able to provide useful and actionable on going feedback on their performance, progress and personal development.

Team collaboration - if team decisions need to be made, the Team Leader should consult the team through managed discussions, ensuring involvement and that discussions are focused and productive, and where necessary lead to a decision.

Team motivation - motivate the team to work toward their objectives, boosting morale where it is found to be low by identifying why morale is low and taking specific action to try to fix any problems.

Recognition - ensure employees are visibly recognised for consistent great work or an outstanding one-off contribution to the organisation.

Be a role model for effective team working - set an example to the team on how to work effectively and carry out tasks to the best of their ability. "Practice what you preach".
