Role
My client is entering into a very exiting phase due to growth in its 'Bespoke' vehicle and new product development-manufacturing activities. This growth is not forecast, it's a reality with several fantastic projects already on the high level plan. Bespoke vehicles is only one pillar of activity; The company is also very well known for its 'Survivability' business this is largely due to innovative approach to seating, as with demands in the core automotive sector the demands for reducing weight and cost are high. The company are involved in many survivability programs and in house innovation work streams.
 
To support this growth and be successful in the delivery of all the projects the business is growing its engineering and project capability moving towards a combined 'Product Development' business unit. Change is in the air for the company; as a result, this opportunity in particular will play a significant part in the introduction of a new structure. The restructure has created an opportunity for a new Manager to join the team. The Engineering Design team is responsible for all system design, release and sign off for defence vehicle systems. Working in a matrix structure the team will ensure robust engineering principles are followed to ensure 'Engineering Excellence' is embedded into the company's Products.
 
The Engineering Design Group Manager will be responsible for the growth and development of the capability and capacity of the team to ensure we are fit to deliver our products. The scope of the role is broad and as such, the first line of the team is expected to be the SME's to provide the depth of capability in our core engineering competencies. The EDGM will be required to develop a scalable team with robust outsourcing capability to enable business and project flexibility.
 
The individual
A self-motivated, flexible and highly competent design-engineering manager or highly capable multi discipline principal engineer will thrive in this role. Someone who is capable of putting their stamp on a business that is growing; be an ambassador and implementer of change. You will be accountable for growing and developing your team. The team will be accountable for delivery of systems, components and vehicles to achieve all project KPI's.

 
Requirements
 Degree / Masters level (or equivalent) in a Vehicle engineering / Automotive discipline.Strong knowledge of all or some of; Body Structures, Chassis and Electrical integration, Interiors, Defence and Survivability systems.Strong new product development knowledge from Pre-Bid, Concept through to series Manufacture.Low and Medium Volume vehicle background would be a real advantage.Conversant with 'Engineering tools' such DFMEA's, GD and T, DFM, DFA.Displays good people management capabilities, can lead a team.Capable of dealing with Senior and sometimes challenging individuals.Can demonstrate effective change management and process creation / Implementation.Knowledge of engagement and management of engineering outsourcing deliverables based contracts.
