The ICO is looking for enthusiastic and high performing individuals for our newly created Technology Policy and Innovation Directorate. We have vacancies for a number of roles at varying levels - roles that will help us shape how emerging technologies and information practices impact the lives of the UK public. Join the ICO at this exciting time as the regulatory environment is undergoing the biggest change in the last twenty years.

About us

As an independent body serving the public, the ICO's work is interesting and immensely rewarding - it's of national importance and increasingly in the public eye. We are at the forefront of policy, guidance, direct advice to the public, and enforcement of the UK's data protection and freedom of information laws. We hold a unique position as a regulator across the whole of the private, public and third sectors.

Our Technology Policy Department is the centre of technological expertise. It monitors and evaluates current and emerging technologies, assessing their impact on information rights, developing the ICO's response and working with colleagues to develop technical underpinning to the ICO's regulatory activities. The Innovation Department is responsible for key areas of the ICO's work on the information rights issues and benefits arising from novel uses of personal data. It engages with government, other regulators, business, stakeholders involved in the internet economy and leading academics, supporting or guiding innovators to develop new products and services involving personal data.

Across the directorate our activities can range from producing in-depth research and policy documents and briefings, providing advice to organisations or other regulators, to being a primary contact for significant stakeholders.

About you

The requirements for each role will vary so please consult the specific job description and person specification before you apply. We are looking for people who are reliable and professional with excellent analytical and communication skills and an innovative mind-set. You will have strong technical knowledge, good research skills and the ability to apply your developing knowledge to new and emerging technologies in order to understand their impact on information rights. In return, we can offer you excellent staff benefits, a supportive working environment and the opportunity to be genuinely involved in shaping the way emerging technologies and the Internet impact on the lives of the UK public

The ICO is committed to equal opportunities in employment and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
