I have partnered up with one of my long-standing clients who are looking to recruit an experienced Solutions Architect to come in and join a new team as part of a company-wide recruitment drive.
The organisation themselves are pretty well known in the Midlands and they are currently in the midst of a huge digital transformation piece aimed at improving the way they deliver content to their customers through technical innovation.
This role will sit in a team that focuses on the delivery of a range of enterprise products in the commercial payments, FinTech and security space. You will be positioned within a team of 4 talented Solutions Architects, working collaboratively to provide both the architecture and engineering for a range of solutions in a highly visible function within the organisation. Moreover, this role offers the chance to come in and shape a new technology roadmap with a focus on Cloud-first strategies, as well as Event-Driven Architecture and Microservices.
Clearly then, this role covers a range of responsibilities and rather than just copy and paste the JD, I have decided to break said responsibilities down below:
E2E Architecture - The core focus of this role will be providing E2E Architecture for a range of Enterprise-scale solutions. They are currently in the midst of moving from SOA to a Microservices-based model so exposure to either is required, as is experience with Technical Solutions Design. Any certifications (e.g. TOGAF) would also be desirable.
Technology - From a technology standpoint, they are ideally looking for candidates with a background in Software Engineering rather than Infrastructure, although experience with both would be a huge advantage. They are currently running a diverse tech estate (e.g. Java, Spring, .NET Core, REST APIs, Docker, Jenkins, JBoss, React) so a background in core Software Engineering would be preferable as they ideally need an SME. Your role will involve liaising with Software Engineers on a regular basis, so an understanding of OO principles and development methodologies (e.g. DevOps, Agile, Scrum, SOLID) is hugely important.
Stakeholder Management - Due to the nature of this organisation, the stakeholder management piece is huge and your role will be extremely stakeholder-facing. You will be expected to engage with both technical and commercially-minded stakeholders, with a focus on both managing and influencing expectations throughout the development and design lifecycles. You should therefore be a strong and confident communicator with a proven track record working on stakeholder-heavy projects.
Leadership & Management - Whilst not being a management role in the same vein as a Development Manager or Project Manager, your role will still involve a large element of leadership so basic management skills would be useful. You will be expected to act as a conduit between various stakeholders and will be leading projects to some degree, so any experience in a leadership capacity would be beneficial.
But in my personal opinion, what they are truly looking for are passionate technologists with a genuine drive to succeed - cliche I know, but you get my drift.
