The Company:

My global tech leader, a house hold name for all ages and in every corner of the globe, are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to come in and cover a range of different and also difficult technical challenges that they face as a business and make a difference to performance, reliability and service.

 

The Environment:

The SRE will work in one of Oxfordshire's top offices, made in the style of Google, Facebook et al (Think games room, free food, open plan office with free parking and all that jazz) and will be using the latest and greatest tech stack available. The organisation is Agile, work in a DevOps/Continuous integration style environment and encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Finer Details:

The Site Reliability Engineer will be in a team responsible for a fast growing infrastructure and will come with a history of sustaining and improving large systems as well as having strong knowledge of Operating Systems and having programming skills.

 

 

Some typical duties as an SRE: (we realise you will be doing a lot of different things, but that is what will make this job great!)

 

Work across the AWS stack - including deployment to the cloud, support tickets, cloud architecture, automate services, working on AWS Management Console,

Some coding to a level where you could assist with bug fixing and application support. Ideally this will be some Java, JavaScript, PHP or a modern development language

Linux and Unix server administration, deployment, engineering, deployment and security

General Networking with cloud and unix systems. Probably to a level that sits between CCNA and CCNP.

Solid Database knowledge around PostgreSQL or MySQL - probably to the level of a DBA including configuration, upgrades, migration and installations

Configuration management with tools like Puppet, Ansible, Chef, Salt etc.

Create and work with Jenkins CI servers and work with things like various JDKs, GIT, Github, Ant and Maven where required.

Learn new technologies - self research or things like seminars, stand-ups and knowledge shares
