Purpose of Position

 
We are looking for a creative individual, with exposure to engineering, design or business development/marketing who has both the technical and creative skills to create compelling visualisations and be able to develop collaborative storyboards with stakeholders to articulate key defence export messages.
We are looking for a person who can bring with them an extensive network of creative talent from UK based organisations that can be leveraged. Ideally the candidate will have exposure to leading the creative process for developing storyboards with stakeholders, planning the scope and programme of work to complete the visualisation/animation sequence. The candidate will be expected to create the visualisations and also work with outside agencies for their production.
This role is for a mid-level professional who has exposure to translating stakeholder requirements into system architectures and who understands current and future defence technologies, technical concepts, systems and capabilities. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate both a compelling portfolio of work and show evidence of successfully engaging with senior military, government, industrial and overseas government stakeholders.
In addition, the role requires a person who is capable in using industry standard graphics, image manipulation and video editing applications (such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere) and also has exposure to using 3D modelling applications (such as Lightwave3D, Blender, 3DStudioMax, softimage etc) to create 3D models to support concept development tasks.
The ideal candidate will also bring with them exposure to using Live-Virtual and Constructive simulation federates (such as VRForces, VBS3, STK) and the knowledge of how to use these simulation applications to create concept of operations level experimentation and simple, yet effective visualisations of platform, sensor and effector capabilities.
Finally, we also require a person that can mentor and manage a small team of secondees and placement students.
 
Responsibilities
 
The key responsibilities for this role are:Leading the Visualisation activitiesPlanning and managing the creation of Visualisation and Synthetic Environment - based experimentation campaigns.Supporting analysis of UK technology capabilities to conceptualise solutions in which benefit is achieved from integrating UK sub-systems into capabilities.Contributing to the visualisation strategy across the target market opportunity areas supporting the capability development team and market intelligence cell analysis.Managing key dependencies, interfaces and ways of working drawn from Industry and Academic and other Research OrganisationsEssentialIndependence from home company for duration of secondmentAbility to work predominantly in FarnboroughDemonstrable ability to work in a fluid cross team environment which can be ambiguousDemonstrable ability to work in collaborative environmentsAbility to work for a minimum period of 12 monthsCompleted host company anti-bribery and corruption trainingStrategic thinkerDesirableDemonstrable ability to work in multi-company/multi-disciplinary environmentFamiliarity with defence export activities and customersExposure to working on joint Industry/Government projectsAbility to travel around UK (frequently) and internationally (occasional)In addition, the Head of Visualisation Engineering will also be assessed against the following criteria:
