Linux Systems Administrator - Bristol - Permanent - £43k - £49k Per Annum

The Company

An education institution is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Administrator with strong hyper-V experience, to be based at their Bristol site.

The Role

This position has responsibility for the development, support and maintenance of the mission critical IT infrastructure. This role will have full Senior Systems Administration responsibility for the physical and virtual estate, including input into architecture, strategy, design and implementation

Responsibilities

*Assist in developing long term strategies associated with services that the team in which the post-holder works is responsible.

*Create and maintain suitable technical and operational documentation for all aspects of wide Server and Storage systems

*Analyse operational issues and events providing information for appropriate senior managers

*Monitor and review systems and services, correcting problems as they arise and using information to provide more effective service delivery

*Provide high level support and technical management of all server and data storage infrastructure solutions

*Provide high level technical expertise for a wide range of software packages, server operating systems and services that are in use across the business, for other IT staff departments and end-users

*Support and maintain a wide range of hardware (Servers, Chassis, SANs, NAS) to provide a reliable and highly available infrastructure service

Experienced Required

It is critical that you understand the concepts and problems of enterprise level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms and remote administration, working with many levels of complexity. Ideally you should possess an ability to innovate solutions for the benefit of the organisation as a whole.

You must have demonstrable experience and knowledge of administering Linux or Unix systems. You should have experience of scalable and resilient systems having managed multiple servers in a complex environment.

Essential Skills:

*Linux Administration within an enterprise environment (RHEL, CentOS)

*Virtualisation Skills (Hyper-V preferred)

*Apache Administration

*Security and patching best practices

*MPIO and iSCSI configuration and best practices

Desired Skills:

*Configuration management (Puppet/Git preferred)

*Solaris
