Data Analyst - London - up to £34kpa DOE

My client, an independent professional body and registered charity promoting and advancing standards of surgical care for patients, regulating surgery, including dentistry, in England and Wales are currently looking to expand their team with a Data Analyst.

As the Data Analyst, you will lead data governance, management and analysis on behalf of the department and contribute to the departments strategic research.

You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

Data management

*Develop and manage the departments protocol, for the application for and evaluation and prioritising of requests for the departments data for research.

*Evaluate and make recommendations for the approval or decline of requests for the departments data in liaison with the departments Director and Data Analysis, Audit & Research Group. This area includes consideration of good practice research principles, data governance, data protection regulations and the departments strategy.

*Work with internal and external researchers in relation to specific research projects, including providing advice on applications and communicating decisions to applicants.

Data analysis

*Develop a data strategy in collaboration with stakeholders

*Use querying language (SQL), statistical language (R or optionally STATA, and SPSS) and spreadsheets (Excel) to retrieve, mine and analyse data from a variety of data sources or files, to gain insight for decision-making and to handle complex data integration issues and solutions.

*Use techniques for cleansing and validating data extracts.

*Design and run data reports according to data strategy

*Respond to ad-hoc data analysis requests from senior management team as needed

*Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

*Manage the secure transfer of data, using encryption and secure channels.

*Identify and recommend ways to improve the capture, quality and reporting of data.

*Access and integrate other datasets when required

Data Governance

*Work with the DPO as the data compliance officer to:

oLead on establishing systems to ensure that the department fulfils its legal obligations in relation to the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR

oLead the monitoring of compliance with the data protection policy, retention policy and records management best practice;

oManage responses to data subject requests and reported issues relating to the department;

oReport any non-compliance to policy, risks or potential risks, to the department heads, and coordinate with the DPO for resolution;

oLead on providing information to help staff understand their responsibilities for data protection and provide updates on data protection and records management requirements;

*Work with, and liaise between, the Departments to establish, implement and maintain the data protection policies, including data storage, data retention, cleansing, archiving, encryption and transfer. This area involves managing changing priorities and responding to differing situations.

Experience/Knowledge

*Strong background in data management

*Knowledge of good data protection principles and the General Data Governance Regulations (GDPR)

*Experience of writing SQL

*Experience in statistical / data analysis using specific statistical analysis and database query software

*Demonstrable experience of interpreting technical information for a non-technical audience through briefing papers and reports

*Experience of dealing directly with customers/service users

Skills

*Data analysis techniques

*Ability to independently search complex relational databases

*Advanced Microsoft Office, especially Excel

*Problem solving skills

*High level of numeracy

*Excellent written and oral communication skills

*Ability to form good working relationships at all levels
