A hands-on and technical IT Manager is required by a leading learning organisation.  As the client's IT Manager, you will manage their IT estate via a multi-disciplinary IT team and vendors. You'll be adept at problem solving and implementing changes across a range of end user, infrastructure, networks and telecoms environments. You would manage a small team of on-site engineers, help desk staff and developers.

Responsibilities: - 

Set objectives and strategies for the operation, management and security of the client'stechnology estate 

Managethe clients WAN, LAN's (including Wireless), SAN, virtualised servers and on premise/cloud computer platforms, systems and services 

Co-ordinate and resolve major incidents/problems

Manage anIT help desk and ensuring efficient incident/change management 

Working with key business stakeholders definecost effective IT solutions and services to solve business problems and demand 

Ultimate responsibility for the build quality of server and end user devices

Working with project teams (either internal or via vendors), implement new systems (on-premise or cloud based) 

Approve and purchaseIT equipment and software as well as manage their configuration and deployment 

Maintain IT budgets for operational and capital expenditure 

Direct, manageand organise infrastructure and  projects 

Analyse the costs, value and risks of end user and infrastructure technology to advise management and suggest actionsfor improvement 

Engage across the organisation with business users to gain buy-in ontechnology changes and communicate to different stakeholder groups  

Prioritising the work that needs to be done within the team(s) against the capacity and capability of the team

Ensure all IT products and services are deliveredto an appropriate level of quality  

Sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge and bringing in a pragmatic adoption of best practicefor IT Service Management. 

Lead on communicationsfor all key IT initiatives  

Spot warning signs of things going wrong and provide a decisive response to significant delivery challenges.

Candidate Pre-requisites: - 

Proven?experience?as a hands-on IT Manager/Head of Service Operationswith particular emphasis on managing infrastructure,  and service operations management. In particular 

Virtualisation

SANs, preferably Netapps

WAN, preferably MPLSwith Switch/Firewall experience 

IT Security frameworks and data protection/compliance aware or qualified would be advantageous

Expert in Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Office365

Some MS SQL experience

ideally candidates should have knowledge ofSQL DB Administration  

Demonstrable ability to identify, plan and mitigate IT risksand document key aspects of the IT estate 

Proven experience of balancing multiple prioritiesacross different technical domains. 

Experience in leading small multi-disciplinary teamsacross infrastructure and support and potentially in-house development/database administration 

IT Purchasingand Budgeting 

Excellent leadership, management and communication skills.

Strong delegative skills who can manage by exceptionwhen required 

Strong planning orientation both in the short and longer term

Experience in managing vendors and contracts

Very strong analytical and problem-solving capabilitieswho keeps calm under pressure 

Good ITIL awarenesswith certifications an added bonus  

MCSE qualification desirable
