Formed by academics from the University of Sheffield we have recently moved off-campus to give us more space to grow and currently employ 33 people. Our aim is to build a world-class company of significant size and stature over the next five years that helps to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery by providing standardised materials and equipment with improved performance, lower cost and great customer support. Approximately 75% of our sales are exported to over 1000 institutions in 80 countries, we have many of the world leading research institutions as customers and have recently won both Institute of Physics awards for innovation and a Queens Award for export. We also provide flexible working around core hours (10AM-4PM), company pension and healthcare scheme. Job Overview  We have a new vacancy for an electronic production role for someone who is looking to apply their knowledge in a commercial setting and with the desire to develop into a quality management role. The jobs principle role is to take responsibility for the production and quality control of the electronic boards at the heart of our lab equipment ranges. This will involve a split of constructing the boards, developing manufacturing and quality procedures, and maintaining the stock levels of the components and completed boards. The role will involve initially working as part of the Production-Engineering team as a technician to build our current range of electronic boards until they become an expert in their manufacture. This includes PCB quality control/inspection and will require creating reports on any defective boards and their solutions. The role will then evolve into taking the learnt knowledge of our current processes to create better, repeatable processes that will increase quality and be able to scale with our growing demand and building a team of part-time or flexible staff to handle production. Longer term tasks will then involve setting up in-house automated board construction using a pick and place machine for small production-run and prototyping and balancing the in-sourced and out-source production, as well as forging relationships and monitoring quality from external suppliers. A successful candidate will have evidence of the necessary manual dexterity to assemble PCB boards to Ossila's standards, and experience of working with through hole and SMD components and identifying faults. The candidate will gain experience of working in a small, quickly growing company, and how operations management and electronic engineering combines in commercial settings as well. A successful candidate will have strong Excel skills and problem-solving skills. We are looking for someone with significant practical skills coupled with sufficient schematic or theoretical skills to perform first-line problem debugging and problem solving. As such the role might fit a wide range of candidates including electronic engineering graduates, former industrial apprentices within the electronics industry or electronics hobbyists with advanced experience. An additional essential requirement is the desire to learn and develop since as a high-growth lean manufacturer an understanding of the overall objectives and direction of the company is essential and we will require the development of both technical and interpersonal skills.   Essential requirements: Experience in PCB Assembly (Through hole, SMD, fault finding, debugging) Electronic schematic knowledge and developed problem solving Highly organised and self-motivated Aptitude for problem solving Desire for learning and self-improvement Good Excel skills EU national or UK work permit holder Desirable traits: Experience with oscilloscopes / Electrical analysis Knowledge of electronic theory knowledge.   To apply send a CV and your own covering letter by clicking APPLY now!
