This is a new opportunity for an experienced Server Project Engineer to join a team of dedicated IT professionals to deliver new and exciting IT systems into the Defence environment.

The candidate shall have in-depth experience of installing and configuring VMWare and Microsoft Server products.

Working under a Senior Engineer or Architect, the candidate will lead smaller tasks and take responsibility for the task's technical output. The applicant will work with the technical management team to identify resources required for the task and provide regular progress updates.

The applicant will be at ease working within a small to medium sized team and be comfortable taking on new tasks outside of their skill set as required by the business.

The applicant will be expected to uphold quality and deliver solutions to budget and time constraints. Solutions must be delivered fully documented so a high standard of written work is expected.

The team support projects across a range of sites, so mobility is a key requirement of the role. Although based in Portsmouth, the candidate will be expected to work at other sites as required - with travel & subsistence provided.

SC Clearance (or be eligible/willing to undergo), with aim of gaining DV clearance.

Position Requirement

* Proactively work with solution architects and senior engineers to aid in the production of (and/or contributions to) proposals for work (preparation/justification of work programmes/plans/resource estimates)

* Lead tasks to ensure delivered solution follows defined design process governance procedures and processes through design reviews

* Keep abreast of industry trends and advancements in information technology

* Build and enhance relationships with peers and their infrastructure services

* Be responsible for undertaking project work across the team as required - participation in reference groups, training and research on new functionality etc.

* Working towards becoming recognised as a Server expert

* Willingness to travel within the UK and potentially overseas.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

* Practical experience of building VMWare ESXi (ideally VCP6.0 or later) and Microsoft Server 2012 (MCSA ideally, or demonstrable experience).

* A sound technical understanding of IT concepts, including Active Directory, Group Policy Object and DNS architectures.

* Experience in deploying and supporting Enterprise Infrastructure Services including directory, messaging, back-up and storage

* Experience of systems integration, with appreciation of networking requirements for a server infrastructure.

* Knowledge of JSP 604 and 440 and associated JSPs would be desirable.
