It's been said claimed by various sources (I sound like Sky Sports News on transfer deadline day…) that the average job seeker spends approximately 90 seconds reading a job advert before deciding whether to press 'next' or 'apply'.

So with that in mind, I wanted to try and craft something that is short (and sweet), informative and hopefully something that gets your attention.

Here it goes…

I am recruiting on behalf of a Global Organisation in the Northampton area who are looking to hire skilled Technical Leads for a huge portfolio of FinTech projects. The roles are part of an enormous company-wide digital transformation piece, looking at developing a range of new products in the fraud detection and commercial banking space using a range technologies including Java 8, Machine Learning, Jenkins, Docker, React, REST and Spring.

The core focus of the roles will be greenfield development of a number of new platforms, getting involved in the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with a focus on a 'quality first' approach to engineering. They currently run a number of small Agile feature teams, focusing on Scrum as well as TDD, Continuous Integration and DevOps. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be tasked with ensuring these approaches are both evangelised and pushed, as well as ensuring that your own code is crafted to the highest possible standard.

Fundamentally, this organisation believes in giving their Lead Software Engineers a large degree of creative control, encouraging autonomy and giving you the opportunity to bring ideas to the table, rather than sitting there and being crushed by the weight of micro-management and bureaucracy.

But enough about them... this advert is all about you. Specifically, what you will need to know should you be interested in applying:

Product Development - A background in a product-focused role would be ideal as this position will involve working on greenfield development for a number of business-critical applications. Experience working on Enterprise-scale products would be even better, especially in the Financial Services and/or Banking domain.

Technical Knowledge - They work with a range of technologies with a specific focus on the Java development stack. Experience with Java technologies (Java 8, Spring, Hibernate) as well as wider technological knowledge (Docker, Jenkins, Git, SQL, Oracle, Scala, Python, C++) is crucial. Experience building front end/UI applications (React, Redux, Angular, Bootstrap) is also hugely desirable.

Methodologies - This organisation is admittedly Agile with a small 'a' and they currently operate a hybrid Agile/Waterfall approach to development. Don't get me wrong, they are looking for candidates who can bring strong Agile experience to the table, but just don't expect this role to be that of an Agile evangelist. They are on a journey and they are getting there... they just aren't quite there yet!

Stakeholder Management - Although they aren't a Consultancy or MSP, this role will involve occasionally liaising with internal stakeholders over a range of technical and non-technical issues. Excellent communication skills are therefore crucial.

In return for demonstrating some (hopefully all!) of the above, you will benefit from a highly competitive salary alongside a flexible benefits package including a company bonus scheme, 10% pension, 25 days holiday and private healthcare.

So if you are genuinely sitting at work contemplating your next career move or simply fancy a chat to learn more about this role then give me a shout - you can use the following:
