Specific Responsibilities

My clients IT department provides technology design, development and support services to the wider group, its subsidiaries and its customers across the globe.

The IT Department manages some 400 applications, 20 networks, 11 domains and around 500 firewalls; design and advise on solutions which operate from around 100 additional networks operating in a dozen countries and at the highest government security classifications.

Solution Architects within IT play an important role ensuring that the solutions they produce align with roadmaps established by the Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice, and complies with EA Standards, Principals & Policies.

As a consumer and contributor to EA, SA's leverage their expertise to design and develop standards and solutions that support the introduction of new and emerging technologies in a safe and secure manner. The design patterns and guidance that they develop will become reusable design artefacts.

Focussed on converting business requirements into designs that ultimately deliver to the functional and non-functional requirements, the SA will rely on design patterns from previous experiences, published reference architectures, and on guidance from the EA Sponsor. The SA is accountable for balancing architectural concerns of the projects with the concerns of the Enterprise.

The Solution Architect is the development or design authority for each project. The SA will provide motivation & guidance to the entire project & implementation teams during the systems design, implementation & early life support lifecycle. Each SA must ensure buy-in from the support and implementation teams, so that the teams are motivated to match the implementation to the detailed design of the solution.
