SURVIVABILITY ENGINEER

Specific Responsibilities
You will work in the Weapons Science group which is part of the Applied Science division. Within the Weapons Science group, the Survivability Team provides expertise spanning armour, physical protection, defensive aids systems as well as maritime Survivability modelling.
You will work within the Rosyth team as an Analyst using Survive software to deliver and help win maritime platform vulnerability analysis projects and tasks. Work will include supporting delivery of tasks under the MCSA contract, commercial work as well as provision of Survive training as required.
It is likely that the successful candidate will have a physics, engineering or mathematics background.
Knowledge, skills and Personal Qualities Required
An ability to learn about ship and submarine types, layouts and system configuration and an ability to build numerical models and engage with software developers, ideally with prior experience in use of the Survive software
A desire to acquire knowledge of naval weapon types and damage mechanisms and statistical analysis
Demonstrate good interpersonal, influencing, analytical and team working skills, and be able to exchange ideas and information effectively in a concise and logical way.
Have proven planning, organisation and coordinating abilities.
Exhibit good listening and questioning skills to fully understand customers' requirements and problems.
Personal resilience to handle competing demands and setbacks, proactively anticipates possible problems and using own judgement and initiative derives a range of possible solutions to reach a cost effective outcome.
Key Accountabilities
Support the team in delivery of survivability studies and tasks in consultation with customers
Help in production of ship/submarine and system models within the Survive software environment
Assist in provision of expert technical advice and analysis of modelling results in the Survive software
Help to derive and implement relevant vulnerability and recoverability algorithms within the Survive code
Aid in specification of required functionality within Survive code and production of ship and system models and analyses
Delivery of project work to time, quality and cost
Assist in working with graduate seconders
Help to ensure that customers' requirements and tasks are fully understood and that problems and issues are reliably identified at the outset. Take a proactive approach to Customer relationships.
Provide support to the BD managers and Bid Managers in the construction of work programmes, including their costing and scheduling where possible.
Essential Qualifications
A suitably-recognised engineering, physics or mathematics qualification at a degree level or an equivalent, nationally recognised, professional qualification, with typically 1 to 3 years of further on the job experience. (In lieu of the educational qualifier, would typically have over nine years relevant technical support experience.)
Would be happy to travel occasionally in the UK and perhaps abroad for work
