An exceptional opportunity in your surveying career. Discover how your expertise can help the Met fight crime Our Computer Aided Modelling Bureau provide measured surveys and digital reconstructions of scenes for major crime and often high-profile investigations. Join us, and use your expertise to help bring offenders to justice. Working as part of a dedicated team of specialists, you'll help to reconstruct and analyse crime scenes, using your survey skills to produce 2D plans and 3D point cloud models. You'll be part of a technical response unit that deploys across London - and sometimes nationally (or internationally) if required. You may be called to crime scenes at short notice to carry out measured surveys using both traditional and laser scanning technologies and you'll be expected to participate in an on-call duty rota. As well as providing drawings, models and spatial information, the role includes managing contractors, providing technical advice to barristers and liaising with officers and other specialists to assist investigations and help ensure the case can be clearly presented in court. With access to a wide range of the latest hardware and software, you'll carry out measured building and topographic surveys and utilise post-processing and CAD skills to see projects through from initial capture to final production. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your specialist knowledge to operational policing and provide high quality spatial data to meet court deadlines. With a background in modern Geomatics and sound practical experience, you should be familiar with best practice survey principles and proficient using terrestrial laser scanners, total stations, GNSS/GPS RTK and Computer Aided Design software for the production of topographic and measured building surveys. With good IT skills, ideally you'll also know about data post-processing, especially point cloud registration, data extraction and QA checking and may have some experience of GIS. You'll need good attention to detail, be able to problem solve and have a recognised qualification in measured surveying (or other geospatial or building-related discipline). If you are keen to make the best use of the latest technologies and want to work with dedicated professionals providing innovative and efficient solutions for modern policing, then this is an opportunity like no other. Join us and make a difference. Please note that security vetting is required. To find out more and apply, please visit our website to download a role specific information pack. Click on the link to complete and submit the online application form. You will also be required to submit a detailed CV and personal statement. Completed applications must be submitted by 23:55pm on 14th February 2019. Failure to supply all the relevant documents will result in your application being terminated. We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today's complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London's communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
