Provide the solution design for our digital future
About us
The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has a vision to build an economy that works for everyone, so that there are great places in every part of the UK for people to work and for businesses to invest, innovate and grow.
There has never been a more exciting time to work in BEIS - especially within Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT). We have only just begun to consider how we might exploit the options presented by the latest technology. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play your part in guiding the Department into a new digital future.
The role
As Microsoft Stack Developer, you’ll provide the Department with solution design and development for Microsoft proprietary applications using .NET/SQL and related technologies, which you will demo to stakeholders of varying abilities. - Pro-actively participating in the full development lifecycle
- Monitoring and reporting on the production usage of the product
- Utilising software development methodologies and processes
- Independently completing discrete pieces of work beneficial to the product
About you
You’re a problem solver who can turn business problems into technical designs. In addition, you can identify, explore and assist in implementing opportunities for business improvement - including recognising the potential for the automation of processes.
You’ll have experience of implementing development tasks at some or all levels of stack, such as client side (Browsers and JavaScript), APIs (Swagger), Databases (Test date, SQL queries), and back-end processes and services (RabbitMQ, MemCacheD). In addition, you’ll have experience of automated testing, as well as creating, managing and using test data for development.
Benefits
As a Civil Service employee, you’ll be entitled to a large range of benefits, including:
-Regular performance and development reviews
-25 days of annual leave on entry, increasing to 30 days after 5 years
-One further day paid privilege entitlement to mark the Queen’s Birthday
-Flexible working patterns including part- time or time-term working
-Generous paid maternity and paternity leave
-Interest-free season ticket and bicycle loans
-Competitive contributory pension scheme
